ASPI at EA Global London 2026: Learning from a Global Movement to Strengthen Our Impact for Animal Welfare

On 29–31 May 2026, Across Species Project Indonesia (ASPI) once again attended the EA Global London Conference, an international conference that brings together individuals and organizations from around the world who are committed to creating the greatest possible positive impact through an evidence-based approach. For ASPI, participating in this conference was a valuable opportunity to expand our network, learn about the latest strategies in the farmed animal welfare movement, and strengthen our organizational capacity to become more resilient and deliver effective long-term impact.

EA Global is organized by the Effective Altruism (EA) community, a movement that encourages individuals and organizations to use scientific evidence, cost-effectiveness considerations, and impact evaluation to determine the best ways to help as many sentient beings as possible.

Rather than simply asking, "What can I do?" Effective Altruism also encourages us to consider, "What can create the greatest impact with the resources we have?" This approach promotes more strategic decision-making, from identifying priority issues to designing and evaluating programs based on their impact. For ASPI, participating in EA Global provided a meaningful opportunity to apply these principles to our work on farmed animal welfare in Indonesia.

This year, Indonesia was represented by 13 participants from various organizations and backgrounds, reflecting a diverse range of cause areas within the broader social impact movement. ASPI was happy to be part of Indonesia's representation at this international forum while bringing attention to farmed animal welfare issues, particularly those affecting laying ducks. The presence of Indonesian participants also reflects the continued growth of a community committed to addressing social challenges through collaborative, evidence-based, and impact-oriented approaches.

Throughout the conference, the ASPI team attended a variety of talks and workshops covering research developments, advocacy strategies, organizational development, and cross-country collaboration. In addition, we held a series of one-on-one meetings with representatives of animal protection organizations from around the world to exchange experiences, discuss the challenges faced by our respective organizations, and explore opportunities for collaboration that could strengthen global efforts to improve animal welfare while identifying approaches that are relevant and adaptable to the Indonesian context.

ASPI's participation at EA Global London was more than simply attending a conference. It was an opportunity to bring home new knowledge, meaningful connections, and fresh perspectives that will strengthen our efforts to improve animal welfare in Indonesia.

We hope that the insights gained from the conference can be translated into strategies and programs that create even greater positive impact for animals.
